I don’t have a date on this, but here is a fantastic photograph of Abraham Lincoln at his Springfield home. (I’m guessing the early 1850s since that’s most likely Robert behind him— If anyone knows exactly, please share!)
I have a deep fondness for this photo as it captures a still youngish Lincoln in an extremely rare, candid moment. Unlike the posed photographs we’ve come to know of him, this one feels organic. You can feel the movement: his hair is disheveled, and he leans against the railing of his porch casually; there’s a hint of a smile at his lips.
